I searched the 'Net for this, found a few I liked, and came up with my own variation:
Microwave Poached Egg
Ingredients
- One large egg
- Cooking spray
- (Optional) One slice bread
Utensils
- Coffee Mug
- Plate
- Fork and butter knife
- (Optional) Toaster
Directions
- If you want the poached egg over toast, toast the bread first.
- Spray inside of coffee mug with cooking spray.
- Crack egg into mug, being careful not to break the yolk.
- Set microwave for one minute on high.
- Put mug in microwave, cover with the plate, and start.
- Around the 30 second mark (longer for lower powered microwaves), you will hear a quiet, muffled pop, followed by a louder muffled pop.
- After the louder pop, continue cooking for three to five seconds. Less and the white won't be fully cooked, more and the yolk will be.
- Take the mug and plate from the microwave, and very quickly:
- Shake the now-poached egg onto the serving plate (or onto toast on serving plate).
- Cut up the egg with the fork and butter knife.
- Eat.
- Failure to be quick about cutting up the egg will result in the yolk getting cooked from the heat of the egg white.
If you want more than one egg, you'll have to use more than one mug; I've tried two eggs in the same mug, and it never works. Either yolks get cooked, or whites don't.
